ASUU Strike: FG Orders Varsities to Enforce ‘No Work, No Pay’

ASUU Suspends Strike, Gives FG One-Month Ultimatum

The Federal Government has directed the enforcement of the “no work, no pay” policy following the strike action embarked upon by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) on Monday.

In a statement, the Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa, instructed vice chancellors of federal universities to ensure strict compliance with the policy in line with existing labour laws.

He directed that roll calls be conducted and monitored by the National Universities Commission (NUC), with reports submitted on staff participation. Salaries are to be withheld from employees who join the strike, except members of the Congress of University Academics (CONUA) and the National Association of Medical and Dental Academics (NAMDA).

The minister urged ASUU to embrace dialogue in resolving its grievances, reaffirming the Federal Government’s commitment to improving the nation’s education sector.
