Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, has announced that the State Geriatric Centre, also known as the ARISE Elderly Citizens Centre, will be officially commissioned on Saturday, March 7, 2026.
He made the announcement during the March edition of the Government House Monthly Covenant Service in Uyo. He also stated that the commissioning will coincide with the First Lady’s maiden official visit to the state and the grand finale of the ongoing women sensitisation and mobilisation tour.
Governor Eno explained that the centre, which features a health facility and relaxation areas, is designed to cater specifically to senior citizens, particularly those aged 65 years and above.
He also commended women across the state for their enthusiastic participation in the sensitisation and economic empowerment programme, conveying the warm regards and felicitations of the First Lady to the beneficiaries.
Highlighting other ongoing initiatives, Governor Eno said the state is undertaking several strategic projects that require prayers for divine guidance and swift completion. He disclosed plans for a new jetty in Oron to revitalise the city’s commercial activities and revealed that preparatory works have begun at the Ikot Ekpene International Market, with full construction set to commence shortly.
On aviation, the Governor announced that Akwa Ibom State will take delivery of two new Airbus aircraft within the year to expand the fleet of Ibom Air. He added that several upgrade projects are ongoing at Victor Attah International Airport in preparation for the start of international flights in April.
On fiscal management, Governor Eno reiterated that the state operates a Treasury Single Account (TSA), urging all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies to comply fully.
Reflecting on his administration’s achievements, the Governor described peace as the state’s greatest asset and urged citizens to resist any efforts to disrupt it. He also welcomed the new electoral law, which he said ends the era of oath-taking by eliminating the recognition of special delegates.
