The North Central All Progressives Congress (APC) has announced plans to hold a grand rally in Lafia, the Nasarawa State capital, next Saturday as part of its mobilisation efforts ahead of the 2027 general elections.
A statement signed on Saturday by the spokesman of the APC Presidential Campaign Council, Dele Alake, said the rally would be organised under the North Central Grassroots Mobilisation Movement to canvass support for the re-election of President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima.
The decision was reached at the inaugural meeting of the movement, held on Friday at the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) in Abuja.
SGF Senator George Akume commended the movement’s National Coordinator, Arc. Sonny S.T. Echono, for establishing the platform, saying the North Central was determined to secure the highest regional vote total for Tinubu in 2027.
Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule described the initiative as timely, saying recent developments and the latest voter register indicated growing support for the APC in the region.
Sule expressed confidence that the North Central would deliver a strong vote for Tinubu and other APC candidates in the 2027 elections.
He said the region’s political influence had increased significantly since the last election, pointing to its representation in key positions, including the offices of SGF and APC National Chairman, as well as other senior government appointments.
According to him, the movement would provide a platform to take the APC’s message to the grassroots and strengthen mobilisation across the region.
Echono said the focus was no longer simply on securing victory for Tinubu in the North Central but on ensuring that the region records the highest number of votes for the President in 2027.
He commended Akume, the North Central Governors’ Forum and other stakeholders for their support for the Tinubu administration and commitment to the mobilisation effort.
Echono described the movement as a strategic platform that would bring together political leaders, grassroots organisers and other stakeholders across the region around a common objective ahead of the elections.
The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, described the initiative as the first of its kind.
At the end of the meeting, participants resolved to intensify grassroots mobilisation for Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid and work towards delivering the region’s highest vote total.
They also agreed to organise medical outreach programmes, establish a Reconciliation Committee and hold town hall meetings across the region.
The forum further resolved that the Minister of Information would work with state commissioners for information, state APC publicity secretaries and publicity committees to raise awareness about the initiative, with the support of state governors.
