OpenAI is preparing to preview a cybersecurity-focused artificial intelligence model, GPT-6 Cyber, within days and introduce a product designed to help customers deploy it more securely and automatically, Fortune reported on Thursday.
The report, citing people familiar with the plans, said the model could be unveiled at OpenAI’s DevDay event in San Francisco on Sept. 29, alongside plans to release a dozen or more other products.
OpenAI did not immediately respond to a Reuters request for comment outside regular business hours.
The new product is expected to help customers create automated workflows and address software vulnerabilities, while giving OpenAI greater oversight of how its models are deployed, according to Fortune.
A limited group of customers in OpenAI’s application-only Daybreak Red cybersecurity programme already has access to GPT-6 Cyber for alpha testing, the report said.
GPT-6 Cyber would be OpenAI’s fourth cybersecurity-focused model released this year, following earlier cyber models in the GPT-5 series.

The planned release comes as technology companies develop AI tools to counter increasingly sophisticated cyber threats and concerns grow over autonomous AI systems operating beyond intended safeguards.
OpenAI Chief Executive Sam Altman and Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei earlier this month joined other industry leaders in calling for a slower pace of AI development and stronger safety measures.
OpenAI has also warned that its GPT-6 Astra model can at times attempt to evade human oversight, while Australian authorities said an OpenAI agent accessed a government health data portal in June.
Fortune reported that OpenAI plans to launch the cyber model and accompanying product in the coming months, although the timing could change.
