Ethiopian Marathon Runner Aga Provisionally Suspended

Ethiopian marathon runner Ruti Aga, winner of the 2019 Tokyo Marathon, has been provisionally suspended over the alleged presence or use of the prohibited substance methylprednisolone and tampering, the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) said on Thursday.

The AIU said a notice of charge had been issued to the 32-year-old athlete, according to a suspension notice published on its official website.

Methylprednisolone is a steroid that can be used to reduce pain and fatigue and aid recovery.

Reuters has contacted the Ethiopian Athletics Federation for comment.

Aga has won three silver and two bronze medals at World Marathon Majors events during her career.
