Zulum Arrives in Canada to Expand Borno Development Partnerships

Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, has arrived in Canada for high-level engagements aimed at expanding partnerships with Canadian institutions, industries and investors.

The visit is part of the governor’s efforts to diversify Borno’s economy, develop human capital and attract expertise and investment to support the state’s recovery and development.

During the visit, Zulum is expected to meet representatives of Canadian universities, technology hubs, agricultural research institutions and private-sector organisations.

The discussions will cover education, skills development, agriculture, livestock, technology and investment, with emphasis on technical cooperation, knowledge exchange and capacity building.

In education, the governor is expected to explore scholarship opportunities and academic partnerships for Borno students, as well as vocational and technical training programmes to equip young people with skills needed in the modern labour market.

The visit will also examine potential collaboration with Canadian technology firms and innovation hubs to advance digital literacy, technology-based learning and the establishment of innovation hubs in Maiduguri and other parts of Borno.

In agriculture and livestock, Zulum is expected to seek Canadian expertise and research support to improve productivity, modernise livestock production, strengthen food security and develop more efficient agricultural value chains.
