The Anambra State Government has reiterated its resolve to accelerate the growth of Micro, Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (MSMEs), describing the sector as a critical engine for economic expansion, employment generation and sustainable development.
The assurance was contained in a statement issued by the State Commissioner for Commerce, Nonso Chukwuma Ebonwu, to mark this year’s World MSMEs Day.
Ebonwu noted that MSMEs continue to play a pivotal role in driving economic resilience through innovation, enterprise development and wealth creation, while contributing significantly to job creation, improved livelihoods and inclusive growth.
Speaking on the theme of this year’s celebration, “The Future Generation of MSMEs,” the commissioner said the global observance serves as a platform for governments, development partners and private sector stakeholders to strengthen policies and initiatives that empower entrepreneurs with the skills, knowledge and resources needed to build resilient, innovative and globally competitive businesses.
He stated that the administration of Governor Chukwuma Soludo has remained committed to creating a thriving business environment through strategic interventions focused on enterprise development, capacity building, business-friendly reforms, expanded market access and partnerships designed to strengthen the state’s MSME ecosystem.

According to him, although access to finance remains a vital component of business growth, long-term enterprise sustainability also depends on strong corporate governance, continuous capacity development and access to timely information that enables entrepreneurs to identify and respond to emerging business opportunities.
Ebonwu urged entrepreneurs, small business owners and prospective investors to take advantage of the numerous support initiatives and opportunities provided by the state government to establish viable enterprises, create employment and contribute meaningfully to Anambra’s economic transformation.
He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to implementing policies that encourage entrepreneurship, attract investment and strengthen the MSME sector, expressing optimism that the state’s ongoing reforms would further consolidate Anambra’s position as one of Nigeria’s leading destinations for commerce, innovation and industrial development.
World MSMEs Day is observed annually following its proclamation by the United Nations to recognise the vital contributions of micro, small and medium-sized enterprises to sustainable development, innovation, poverty reduction and employment creation across the world.
