The Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Prince Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), has commended Kebbi State Governor, Dr Nasir Idris, for his administration’s support for the judiciary and legal profession in the state.
Fagbemi made the commendation at the opening ceremony of the 2026 Law Week of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Birnin Kebbi Branch, held in Birnin Kebbi. The event was themed “Justice Beyond Algorithms: Navigating Law and Artificial Intelligence in Nigeria’s Evolving Justice System.”
He said Artificial Intelligence and other emerging technologies are transforming legal practice and justice administration, but stressed that they must not replace human judgment, ethics and conscience.
Governor Idris reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening the judiciary and improving justice delivery in Kebbi State through reforms, increased funding and infrastructure development.
He highlighted measures including recruitment of legal officers, renovation of courts, provision of vehicles, digitalisation of justice services and improved welfare for judicial staff.
Retired Supreme Court Justice, Amina Adamu Augie (CFR), in her keynote address, warned that while AI supports legal work, it also poses risks such as false citations and fabricated authorities, urging lawyers to verify all references.
She emphasised that justice must remain rooted in human conscience, fairness and moral reasoning.
Stakeholders at the event praised the governor’s support for the justice sector, describing his reforms as significant in strengthening legal institutions in the state.
The event also featured the presentation of merit awards to Fagbemi, Governor Idris and Justice Augie in recognition of their contributions to justice development in Nigeria.
