The wife of the Anambra State Governor, Nonye Soludo, has called on Nigerians to embrace environmentally responsible lifestyles and take deliberate climate action.
In a statement issued on Friday in Awka by her Media Aide, Daniel Ezeigwe, to mark the 2026 World Environment Day, Soludo said the annual global observance presents an important opportunity to reflect on humanity’s collective responsibility to protect the environment and address the growing challenges posed by climate change for present and future generations.
Speaking on this year’s theme, “Climate Action,” she noted that the increasing impacts of climate change, including rising temperatures, extreme weather events, environmental degradation, food insecurity, and public health challenges, require urgent and coordinated responses from individuals, communities, institutions, and governments. Stressing the need for collective efforts to reduce environmental pollution, promote sustainable practices, conserve natural resources, and build climate-resilient communities.
“Healthy living begins with a healthy environment. The air we breathe, the water we drink, the food we eat, and the communities we live in are all connected to the choices we make every day. A cleaner and more sustainable environment is not merely about aesthetics; it is about safeguarding lives, preventing diseases, and securing a healthier future for ourselves and, most importantly, for our children,” she said.

Soludo noted that environmental sustainability and climate action are shared responsibilities that require deliberate and collective commitment at all levels of society.
She encouraged households, schools, markets, and community groups to adopt simple yet impactful practices such as proper waste disposal, environmental sanitation, tree planting, waste segregation, recycling, energy conservation, and responsible environmental stewardship. She noted that when consistently embraced, these actions can generate lasting environmental and social benefits while contributing to the fight against climate change.
Highlighting the importance of green initiatives, Soludo stated that tree-planting and environmental restoration programmes play a vital role in improving air quality, controlling erosion, restoring ecosystems, beautifying communities, and mitigating the adverse effects of climate change.
The Anambra First Lady further reaffirmed the commitment of the Healthy Living with Nonye Soludo Initiative to promoting a culture where personal health, environmental hygiene, and climate-conscious living go hand in hand. She called on Nigerians and the global community to support initiatives aimed at building cleaner, greener, more resilient, and sustainable societies.
“As we mark World Environment Day 2026, let us all commit to taking meaningful climate action through the choices we make and the practices we adopt every day. Together, we can nurture a greener, cleaner, smarter, and healthier Anambra while contributing to a more resilient, environmentally responsible, and sustainable Nigeria and world,” she stated.
