President Tinubu Hosts Newly Inaugurated Benin President

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has received the newly inaugurated President of the Republic of Benin, Romuald Wadagni, during an introductory visit at his Lagos residence.

The visit reinforced the longstanding ties and regional cooperation between the two West African nations.

President Wadagni arrived at the residence in the afternoon and was received on arrival by the Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

The visit comes barely a week after President Wadagni assumed office following his victory in Benin Republic’s April 12 presidential election.

Wadagni was inaugurated on May 24, 2026, succeeding former President Patrice Talon.

Vice President Kashim Shettima represented Nigeria at the inauguration ceremony held in Cotonou, reaffirming the strong diplomatic and bilateral relations between the two countries.

Nigeria and the Benin Republic share deep historical, cultural and economic ties and have continued to collaborate on regional security, trade, economic integration and other initiatives to advance the development of the West African sub-region.
