The Director-General of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), Lanre Issa-Onilu, has called on Nigerian children to remain committed to learning, discipline, patriotism and strong moral values as they prepare to take on future leadership roles.
In a statement issued by the Deputy Director of Communications and Media, Paul Odenyi, to mark the 2026 Children’s Day celebration, the agency congratulated children across the country, describing them as the nation’s hope, strength and future.
Issa-Onilu said Children’s Day serves as a reminder of the shared responsibility of government, parents, teachers, religious leaders and society to safeguard the rights, welfare and future of every child.
“The future of our nation depends greatly on the values, education and opportunities we provide for our children today. Every child deserves access to quality education, safety, healthcare, guidance and a supportive environment to grow into responsible citizens,” he said.
The NOA Director-General also advised children to avoid negative influences such as crime, drug abuse, cultism, cybercrime and violence, encouraging them instead to embrace integrity, hard work, creativity and unity.
He noted that the agency remains committed to promoting civic responsibility, national values and good citizenship through continuous public enlightenment programmes targeted at children in schools and communities nationwide.
Issa-Onilu further commended parents, teachers, caregivers and development partners for their efforts in raising children despite economic and social challenges.
“As we celebrate our children today, let us renew our commitment to building a Nigeria where every child can dream, thrive and succeed regardless of background, ethnicity or religion,” he added.
The agency wished Nigerian children a happy, inspiring and memorable 2026 Children’s Day celebration.
