Ahead of the February 21 Area Council elections in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Saturday conducted a mock accreditation exercise across the territory.
INEC Chairman, Professor Joash Amupitan, described the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) as a perfected “game changer” for ensuring electoral integrity.
Leading a high-powered delegation that included National Commissioners and the FCT Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Prof. Amupitan visited several polling units, including NIPOST in Area 10 Garki, Government Secondary School Wuse Zone 3, LEA Primary School Ushafa, and Sagwari Primary School in Dutse.
The exercise was intended to test the commission’s operational readiness and the technical efficiency of the newly upgraded BVAS devices ahead of the polls.
Prof. Amupitan stated that all arrangements had been completed for a successful election, noting that non-sensitive materials had already been delivered, while sensitive materials would be dispatched a day before voting.
He also commended the functionality of the BVAS devices, saying they are fully prepared for deployment on election day.
The INEC Chairman appealed to the electorate to turn out in large numbers and exercise their right to vote.
“I urge all eligible voters to come out and make their voices count on election day,” he said.
