President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has felicitated with Comrade Issa Obalowu Aremu, Director-General of the Michael Imoudu National Institute for Labour Studies (MINILS), on reaching his 65th birthday, praising his enduring contribution to Nigeria’s labour movement and democratic progress.
In a statement released by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President described Comrade Aremu as an eminent trade unionist, prolific author, and steadfast advocate for good governance, peace, and social equity.
President Tinubu highlighted that Comrade Aremu has devoted more than forty years to defending workers’ rights and fostering sustainable industrial growth, earning him recognition as one of Nigeria’s leading voices in the labour sector.
Recalling his leadership as General Secretary of the National Union of Textile, Garment and Tailoring Workers of Nigeria (NUTGTWN) and his tenure as an executive member of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) from 2008 to 2020, the President commended his exemplary service.

“Comrade Aremu has dedicated his life to courage, commitment, and principled advocacy in defence of Nigerian workers and society at large,” President Tinubu said, joining the Aremu family, friends, and the wider labour community in celebrating his milestone.
The President also expressed gratitude for the MINILS Director-General’s continued contributions to national dialogue, praying that this new stage of his life brings him good health, renewed vigour, and further fulfilment in service to the nation.
He reaffirmed his administration’s respect for patriots like Comrade Aremu, whose lifelong dedication continues to inspire unity, progress, and justice across Nigeria.
