United Fight Back To Earn Point Against Leeds

Manchester United fought back to earn a 1-1 draw at Leeds on Sunday, with Matheus Cunha cancelling Brenden Aaronson’s opener in a hectic three-minute spell that captured the chaos of the Premier League clash.

With several key players missing, the Brazilian forward shouldered United’s attacking responsibilities, proving a constant threat before silencing Elland Road with his second-half equaliser.

The point lifted United provisionally into fifth place, while Leeds remain 16th.

“We know how big this game is for everyone. But it’s good to have a point here also,” Cunha told TNT Sports. “It was so hard. We know what to expect, what to bring to the game. They try to do everything to win.”

Leeds set the tone early in a frenetic first half that produced few clear-cut chances despite the intensity. United thought they had taken the lead when Cunha volleyed home from range, only for the goal to be disallowed for offside in the build-up.

The home side came close in the 35th minute when Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s glancing header struck the far post with United goalkeeper Senne Lammens beaten. At the other end, Leny Yoro’s header forced a fine reflex save from Leeds keeper Lucas Perri, and the teams went into the break level.

Late Drama Sees United Equalise

Leeds finally broke the deadlock just after the hour mark, with Pascal Struijk setting Aaronson through behind the United defence. The American sprinted past Ayden Heaven before beating Lammens, sending Elland Road into celebration.

United responded immediately. Substitute Joshua Zirkzee made an instant impact, setting Cunha through on goal, and the Brazilian calmly slotted home to level the score in the 65th minute, silencing the home supporters.

Both sides pressed for a winner in the closing stages. Noah Okafor came close for Leeds with an acrobatic overhead kick, but Lammens denied him with a smart save. Cunha struck the post in his attempt to claim the winner, while Zirkzee nearly assisted Benjamin Sesko, whose effort went wide. Leeds substitute Joel Piroe also threatened with a curling first-time shot that sailed over the bar.
