Akwa Ibom APC Sets Stage For 2026 Congresses

The Akwa Ibom State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has begun early groundwork for its 2026 party congresses as part of preparations for the 2027 general election.

Governor Umo Eno announced the development during a stakeholders’ meeting in Uyo, where party leaders and members met to assess progress and strengthen internal cohesion ahead of the forthcoming congresses.

Addressing the gathering, the governor emphasised the importance of unity, discipline and loyalty to party ideals, describing internal harmony as a critical factor for electoral success and sustained development in Akwa Ibom State.

To guarantee an orderly and credible congress process, Governor Eno approved the formation of a seven-member implementation committee tasked with coordinating the exercise in collaboration with the state party leadership.

The committee is chaired by the Secretary to the State Government, Prince Enobong Uwah, with Hon. Dr Patrick Umoh serving as secretary. Other members include Mkpisong Frank Archibong, Nsentip Akpabio, Ubokutom Nyah, Uwem Okoko and Hon. Mrs Owoideghe Ekpotai.

The governor directed the committee to engage extensively with stakeholders at all levels and to work closely with party structures to ensure a transparent and successful congress.

Speaking at the meeting, Senate President Godswill Akpabio praised Governor Eno’s leadership approach, noting that his ability to unite party members had fostered peace and stability across the state.

“This is the Akwa Ibom I have always desired a peaceful and united state, committed to development and supportive of its leadership. When we stand together, no external force can divide us,” Akpabio said.

He added that the peaceful atmosphere recorded during the festive period reflected the level of unity within the state, publicly commending the governor for the confidence he had placed in him.

Akpabio described Governor Eno as a forward-thinking and courageous leader, stating that his decision to align with the APC in the interest of the state was timely. He reaffirmed his support for the governor beyond 2027 and urged party members to remain steadfast.

Also speaking, the APC State Chairman, Obong Stephen Ntukepo, applauded the governor’s leadership and reconciliatory efforts within the party, describing him as a unifier with genuine concern for the wellbeing of Akwa Ibom people.

Other party leaders, including the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas), Obongemem Ekpo; Speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Udeme Otong; Senators Emmanuel Ibok Essien and Effiong Bob; former governorship candidate Obong Nsima Ekere; and the APC State Women Leader, Obongawan Obonodo Uko, also lauded Governor Eno’s leadership.

They pledged their continued support as the party intensifies preparations for the 2026 congresses.
