The Kano State Executive Council has approved over ₦6.9 billion for a series of projects and programmes across the state, covering flood control, road construction, land compensation, education, water supply, youth empowerment, and governance reforms.
The approvals were made during the Council’s 36th meeting at the Government House, Kano, with key decisions aimed at enhancing infrastructure, social services, and economic development.
Briefing journalists after the meeting, Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Ibrahim Waiya, said ₦358,473,978.73 has been allocated for environmental projects to address flooding and improve urban resilience.
“These funds will be used for the construction of storm water drainage systems and culverts at Tudun Wuzirci in Kano Municipal Local Government Area, to be executed by the Ministry of Environment,” he said, adding that the intervention is intended to safeguard residential areas, particularly during the rainy season.
In the land sector, ₦859,217,654.35 has been approved for compensation to property owners affected by the construction of a 5-kilometre dualised road in Tudun Wada Local Government Area.
“The project will be supervised by the Ministry of Land to ensure fairness and smooth execution,” Mr Waiya explained.
Road infrastructure received significant attention, with the Ministry of Works granted ₦896,052,327.46 for the reconstruction of a multi-cell box culvert along the Kiru–Alhazawa–Bellon Koki Road in Kiru Local Government Area. “Additionally, approval was granted for the construction of the Yandodo–Mai-Allo Road in Nassarawa Local Government Area at a cost of ₦2,619,690,830.10,” he added.
Further allocations included ₦1,207,398,700.89 for the construction of a 10-cell reinforced concrete box culvert and other hydraulic structures along the Karari–Kwaimawa–Santar Komau–Badau–Dutsen Karya–Gima Road, all under Ministry of Works supervision.
Highlighting youth empowerment, Mr Waiya said the Council approved ₦431,658,000 for graduation ceremonies and the provision of empowerment kits to beneficiaries of selected Entrepreneurship Institutes across the state. “The programme will be implemented by the Steering Committee on the 26 Entrepreneurship Institutes,” he noted.
For water supply improvements, the Council approved ₦85,560,603.98 for pipeline extensions in Gwale Local Government Area, under the Ministry of Water Resources.

In education, ₦285,174,743.48 was sanctioned for constructing storey blocks of four classrooms with offices across the state’s 44 local government areas. “The project will be executed by the Ministry of Education to enhance learning infrastructure,” the commissioner said.
The Council also approved ₦157,689,000 for an anti-corruption workshop targeting all state directors (Batch Three), coordinated by the Office of the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), to strengthen transparency and accountability.
On legislation, Mr Waiya stated that several bills were approved for submission to the Kano State House of Assembly, including the Kano State Local Governments Administration Bill 2025, the Kano State Economic Planning and Development Council Bill 2025, the Kano State Education Bill 2025, and the Audu Bako College of Agriculture, Science and Technology, Dambatta Law 2025, which seeks to rename the institution.
He added that the Council also approved the implementation of the revised Public-Private Partnership (PPP) Policy and Manual to attract private investment.
“The approvals reaffirm the Kano State Government’s commitment, under Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, to inclusive development, transparency, and improved service delivery across all sectors,” Mr Waiya concluded.
