The Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI), an umbrella organisation for Nigeria’s Muslim community, has urged a diplomatic approach to address recent tensions between Nigeria and the United States.
JNI’s Secretary in Jigawa, Malam Muhammad Babangida, made the call in a statement on Friday in Dutse.
He said, “Jama’atu Nasril Islam in Jigawa expresses deep concern over recent statement by U.S. President, Donald Trump, which was based on misinformation regarding the treatment of Christians in Nigeria.”
Babangida called on Nigerians to remain united, pray, and work diligently for the nation’s development.

He added, “These expressed threats of military action against Nigeria necessitated us to call for diplomatic approach and constructive dialogue by engaging with the U.S. President and the American Congress. This is to highlight the complexities of the security situation in Nigeria and efforts being made to protect all citizens, regardless of faith, and government’s commitments to address the root cause of violence and security challenges in the country.”
The JNI Secretary urged President Bola Tinubu to expedite action by leading a high-powered delegation to engage the U.S. administration for frank dialogue about the situation in Nigeria.
He stressed, “For the success of all these efforts, Nigerians must stand firm in unity, pray and work sincerely towards a better nation, while demanding government to intensify efforts to fight insecurity and assure safety of all citizens.”
Babangida prayed that Almighty Allah would grant Nigerian leaders the strength and wisdom to approach the situation earnestly and expressed hope that citizens would support the government in resolving the nation’s challenges.
