The Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), Dr. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, has called on Nigerians at home and abroad to remain united and steadfast following comments by U.S. President Donald Trump describing Nigeria as a “Country of Particular Concern.”
In a statement issued by NiDCOM’s Director of Media, Public Relations and Protocols, Abdur-Rahman Balogun, in Abuja, Dr. Dabiri-Erewa urged Nigerians in the diaspora to remain calm and continue projecting a positive image of the country.
She noted that the Nigerian Government, through President Bola Tinubu and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, had already provided official responses addressing the matter, stressing that Nigeria remains committed to peace, unity, and constructive international engagement.

According to her, Nigeria is a nation built on tolerance, diversity, and democratic values, and therefore rejects any claim suggesting the country engages in religious persecution.
“The conspiracy theory portraying Nigeria as a country killing Christians is not a true reflection of our reality. Nigeria remains steadfast in upholding democracy, religious freedom, and the protection of all citizens,” she stated.
Dr. Dabiri-Erewa further noted that President Tinubu had reaffirmed Nigeria’s unwavering commitment to religious liberty and mutual respect among all faiths.
She also referenced a strong statement released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which dismissed the U.S. classification as misinformed and unrepresentative of the situation on the ground.
The NiDCOM boss appealed to Nigerians in the diaspora to speak out against such misconceptions and continue to promote national unity and the country’s image globally.
“There are indeed security challenges caused by evil terrorists in some parts of the country. But what President Trump and the international community should do is to support Nigeria’s efforts in defeating these criminals not falsely denigrate our country,” she added.
