The Federal Government has released ₦2.3 billion for the payment of Batch 8 salary and promotion arrears to staff of universities across the country, with beneficiaries expected to begin receiving payments immediately.

A statement by the Director of Press and Public Relations in the Federal Ministry of Education, Mrs. Folasade Boriowo, quoted the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, as saying that the disbursement was processed through the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation (OAGF).

According to the Minister, the move underscores President Bola Tinubu’s administration’s commitment to clearing inherited backlogs and improving staff welfare in tertiary institutions.

Dr. Alausa also disclosed that the Ministry of Finance and the OAGF were finalising the release of third-party non-statutory deductions and pension remittances to the Nigerian University Pension Management Company (NUPEMCO), which he said would be completed soon.

He further announced that the Federal Government had approved the full mainstreaming of the Earned Academic Allowance (EAA) into university staff salaries from 2026 to ensure timely and sustainable payments.

In addition, he revealed that funds had been released under the Needs Assessment of Nigerian Universities, with adequate budgetary provisions made for its continuity.

The Minister noted that the Yayale Ahmed Negotiating Committee continues to play a crucial role in maintaining dialogue between the Federal Government and the various unions in the tertiary education sector.

Dr. Alausa reaffirmed that the Tinubu administration remains committed to addressing the welfare and infrastructural needs of the university system in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda.
