The Super Eagles have arrived in Uyo, Akwa Ibom, ahead of their final 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying match, following a brief travel disruption.
Their flight landed safely at Victor Attah International Airport at 8:05 a.m. on Sunday after an unplanned delay caused by a mid-air emergency the previous day.
The ValueJet aircraft transporting the players, coaches, and officials had made a scheduled stop in Luanda, Angola, to refuel during its journey from Polokwane, South Africa, to Uyo. However, about 25 minutes after takeoff, a loud crack was reportedly heard on the aircraft’s windshield, prompting the pilot to return to Luanda as a safety precaution.
All passengers were safely evacuated, and the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) confirmed that emergency procedures were properly followed. An alternative aircraft was later arranged to complete the trip.
The Super Eagles, who currently sit second in their qualifying group, will face Benin Republic in a decisive match that could secure their place at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The team is expected to hold a light training session later today at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium.
