Lagos State Seeks Trade Ties with Atlanta at US Forum

Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, yesterday addressed the US–Nigeria Policy & Trade Forum at the Georgia State Capitol in Atlanta, held alongside FNITCC-AFRICON 2025, calling for deeper partnerships between Lagos and Georgia.

Speaking at the event, the governor highlighted the shared strengths of both cities. “Atlanta is a logistics and technology hub for the American South, and Lagos serves as the gateway to West Africa. Both cities thrive at the intersection of trade, innovation, and culture,” he said.

He noted that Lagos, with over 24 million people, remains Africa’s most dynamic economy, while Atlanta is home to one of the largest Nigerian communities in the United States.

Reiterating the state’s readiness to welcome investors, the governor said: “My message was that Lagos is open. We are ready for investment and for partnerships in infrastructure, healthcare, education, technology, and the creative industries.”

He also emphasised the importance of the Nigerian diaspora in Georgia, describing them as “a bridge of trust and innovation.” He added that stronger city-to-city ties between Atlanta and Lagos would boost opportunities for trade, innovation, and cultural exchange.
