Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State on Monday rewarded members of the victorious Super Falcons of Ondo origin with a total of ₦60 million and a house, in recognition of their contributions to Nigeria’s recent WAFCON triumph.
The Super Falcons recently clinched their 10th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) title in Morocco.
Governor Aiyedatiwa made the announcement during a special reception held in honour of defender Oluwatosin Demehin, the team’s media officer Mary Akinsola, and team secretary Mary Oduboku.
As part of the gesture, Demehin received ₦30 million and a house at Sunshine Estate, Oba Ile in Akure North Local Government Area. Akinsola and Oduboku were each awarded ₦15 million.
The governor expressed pride in their achievements and highlighted the importance of recognising excellence in sports.
“I would like to extend special congratulations to Oluwatosin Blessing Demehin, a daughter of the soil and a very talented player who was part of the victorious team.
Your contributions to the team’s success are truly acknowledged and appreciated,” he said.
He also commended Mary Akinsola for her tireless efforts in promoting the image of the team through the media, and Mary Oduboku for her administrative dedication and behind-the-scenes work.
“To the three of you in the Super Falcons team, I say you have really made us very proud. Your achievements are a testimony to your hard work, talent, and perseverance. Your victory is not just a triumph for yourselves but a huge honour for Ondo State and indeed, Nigeria,” the governor added.

Aiyedatiwa further appreciated President Bola Tinubu for the national recognition and celebration accorded to the Super Falcons.
Commendations and Reactions
Ondo State Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Henry Omoyofunmi, thanked the governor for honouring the state’s representatives in the national team. He reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to promoting other sports disciplines across the state.
Chairman of the Ondo State Football Association, Sunday Dele-Ajayi, noted that this was the first time any governor in the state had formally honoured Super Falcons players of Ondo origin, despite the state’s long history of producing football talent. He pledged the support of the football association towards further development of the sport at all levels.
In her remarks, Tosin Demehin expressed gratitude for the warm reception and support from the government and people of Ondo State.
She described winning the WAFCON title as a significant milestone in her career and credited her development to her formative years at Sunshine Queens, the state’s women’s football team.
“Winning the trophy was monumental, and this hosting makes it even more special. We stand united to do more for Nigerian football.
”It’s gestures like this that make youths dream bigger. This will strengthen women’s football in Ondo State,” she said.
Demehin added that Sunshine Queens gave her the start she needed and noted that many others within the team are also waiting for their chance to shine.
“There are many more like me in Sunshine Queens, waiting for their chance to be propelled to the next level,” she added.
