University Admission: Nigeria Sets 16-Year Minimum Age

The Nigerian Government has officially set 16 years as the minimum age for admission into the nation’s tertiary institutions.

Speaking on Tuesday during the ongoing Policy Meeting of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) in Abuja, the Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, stressed that the policy is conclusive and not open to negotiation.

He further warned that any admissions conducted outside the Central Admission Processing System (CAPS) would be considered illegal, and those responsible would face legal consequences.

Alausa added that heads of institutions involved in admission fraud would not be spared and would be prosecuted accordingly.
