The Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC) has commenced the construction of its permanent secretariat in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, marking a major milestone in strengthening the nation’s sports infrastructure.
The groundbreaking ceremony took place on 11 June 2025 during a high-level meeting attended by senior officials from the National Sports Commission (NSC). The project is being developed on a five-hectare plot allocated by the Federal Government near the Aviation Village in the FCT.

Leading the launch was the President of the NOC, Engr. Habu Ahmed Gumel, OON, who was accompanied by members of the NOC Executive Committee and Board, as well as notable dignitaries including the Chairman of the NSC, Mallam Shehu Dikko, and the NSC Director-General, Bukola Olapade.
“This project represents a bold step forward in our mission to transform Nigeria into a global sporting powerhouse,” said Engr. Gumel. “It will not only streamline our administrative operations but also serve as a world-class training hub for Nigerian athletes across various disciplines.”
The new NOC Secretariat is expected to be constructed in phases, eventually rising to at least five floors. It will feature state-of-the-art training facilities for various sports and is designed to accommodate national federations, training camps, seminars, and workshops creating a centralised environment for athlete development and Olympic preparation.
