PDP Wike Faction Assures Transparent, Peaceful National Convention

The faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) aligned with FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, has assured members and Nigerians of a credible, transparent, and orderly National Convention set for Sunday in Abuja.

Speaking at a press briefing on the eve of the event, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Jungudo Haruna, stated that all arrangements have been finalised to ensure a smooth and successful exercise.

Describing the convention as a landmark event in the party’s history, Haruna reaffirmed the PDP’s dedication to democratic principles, due process, and the collective will of its members.

The National Caretaker Working Committee (NCWC) emphasised that the convention is structured to be inclusive, reflecting the aspirations of party faithful across the country.

“The convention will be conducted in strict adherence to the PDP constitution and all relevant legal frameworks,” the committee said, stressing the party’s commitment to promoting democracy in Nigeria.

Addressing concerns about potential disruptions, the PDP called on members to remain calm, noting that while reconciliation efforts continue, no actions that could compromise the party’s stability would be tolerated. Delegates, stakeholders, and observers were urged to maintain decorum and ensure a peaceful exercise throughout.

The party also highlighted its role as a credible platform for national development, good governance, and the protection of democratic values, expressing confidence that the convention will strengthen its capacity ahead of upcoming elections.

Appreciation was extended to Minister Wike for providing an enabling environment for the convention in Abuja.

Responding to questions on possible legal interventions, the NCWC dismissed reports of court orders or appeals that could hinder the event as mere speculation.

On internal party divisions, the committee acknowledged differing opinions but stressed that the PDP enjoys broad support across its structures, with key stakeholders expected to participate fully. Concerns about the sale of nomination forms were also addressed, with the party affirming that the exercise was publicised and conducted in line with due process.

The PDP concluded by expressing optimism that the National Convention would proceed as planned, reinforcing unity and cohesion within the party.
