Niger, Russia Deepen Ties in Agriculture, Mining

The Niger State Government and Russia have taken steps to strengthen economic cooperation in agriculture and mining, as Governor Mohammed Bago hosted a delegation of Russian businessmen in Minna.

The visit was disclosed in a statement issued on Wednesday by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Mr Bologi Ibrahim.

The delegation, led by Mr Peter Arseniev, comprised representatives of Sber Bank of Russia, the Russian Trade Commission, equipment manufacturers, strategic partners, and Rostselmash.

According to Ibrahim, the mission followed a Memorandum of Understanding earlier signed between the state and Sber Bank on agricultural and mining development.

Governor Bago welcomed the team, describing the visit as a demonstration of commitment to the agreements and evidence that his recent trip to Russia was producing positive outcomes.

He expressed optimism about the partnership, noting that it marked the beginning of a promising future for Niger State in agriculture, mining, and related ventures. The governor also pledged sustained follow-up on the collaboration, while highlighting the state’s interest in extending cooperation to telemedicine and education.

Chairman of Niger Foods, Mr Sammy Adigun, disclosed that the visitors had inspected farms and confirmed the state’s vast land and water resources.

Arseniev and other delegation members described their experience as “exciting, interesting, and fruitful,” acknowledging Niger State’s enormous agricultural potential and investment prospects. They reaffirmed their readiness to strengthen cooperation and unlock opportunities for sustainable growth.

The visit concluded with a gala night in honour of the delegation, featuring colourful traditional and cultural performances.
