Iran has resumed gas exports to Iraq at a reduced volume of five million cubic metres per day, according to Iraq’s Ministry of Electricity.
The supply had earlier been disrupted following an attack on Iran’s South Pars gas field, reportedly carried out by Israel earlier in the week.
Officials said the current delivery represents only a small portion of the 50 million cubic metres agreed under the existing contract. While authorities expect output to increase gradually, no specific timeline has been provided, and details regarding the extent of damage to the gas infrastructure remain unclear.
Despite the limited supply, the resumption has contributed to improved electricity generation in Iraq.
“Following the resumption of Iranian gas supplies, the national grid has recorded stability in production at 14,000 megawatts,” an electricity ministry spokesperson, Ahmed Moussa, said.
