The Nasarawa State Government has officially pledged its full support for an upcoming Integrated Health Camp initiative led by UNICEF.
The partnership aims to deliver critical medical services across all 13 Local Government Areas (LGAs), ensuring that even the most remote communities have access to essential life-saving interventions.
The commitment was done during a courtesy visit of a powerful delegation, led by the Executive Secretary of the Nasarawa State Primary Health Care Development Agency (NAPHDA), Dr. Usman Iskilu Saleh, together with the UNICEF Chief of Field Office (Kaduna), Dr. Gerida Birucila, to the Ministry for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, in Lafia, the state capital.
Speaking during the engagement, Usman Iskilu Saleh characterised the high-level meeting as an emergency outing, reflecting the urgency of the health intervention.
He expressed strong optimism that the swift collaboration between the state government, local councils, and UNICEF would translate into emergency success for the citizens of Nasarawa.
Also, speaking, UNICEF Chief of Field Office (Kaduna), Gerida Birucila emphasised that the success of the campaign hinges on a co-financing model and joint implementation. Because the health camps are designed to operate at the local level.
She noted that the active involvement of both the Ministry and the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) is indispensable.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Aminu Muazu Maifata, assured the partners of the state’s total readiness.
“You should be rest assured that we will do the needful to make sure the campaign is carried out, you have our go-ahead, and for the assistance, we will definitely give as soon as possible”, Maifata stated.
The ALGON Chairman, Safiyanu Andaha, echoed this sentiment, confirming that all Local Government Chairmen are fully mobilized to provide the necessary logistics and support to ensure the exercise reaches every ward.
The Integrated Health Camps are designed to be a one-stop shop for community wellness, by offering Polio Vaccinations, which would maintain the state’s immunisation coverage, Nutrition Support, by addressing malnutrition among children and vulnerable groups.
