The Anambra State Government has strengthened security operations in the state by donating 30 Toyota Hilux patrol vehicles to the Nigeria Police Force. The initiative aims to enhance police visibility, response time, and overall public safety across southeastern Nigeria.
The handover ceremony took place at the Old Governor’s Lodge in Amawbia and was led by Governor Professor Chukwuma Soludo. According to the Anambra State Police Command spokesperson, Superintendent of Police Tochukwu Ikenga, the donation demonstrates the government’s continued commitment to supporting law enforcement in maintaining order and protecting citizens.
Governor Soludo said the donation “underscores my administration’s continued commitment to supporting the Nigeria Police Force in maintaining law and order across the state.” He emphasised that effective security is central to social stability and economic development.
At the event, the Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, Ikioye Orutugu, also presented 28 newly commissioned Assistant Superintendents of Police, all indigenes of Anambra, to the governor. The officers recently completed their training at the Nigeria Police Academy in Wudil, Kano, and were commissioned by the President of Nigeria before being posted to serve in their home state.
CP Orutugu noted that the combination of new patrol vehicles and additional officers “would significantly improve police visibility, response time, and operational efficiency across Anambra State.”
Addressing the officers, Governor Soludo encouraged them to uphold professionalism, discipline, and integrity. He urged them to reflect Anambra State’s ethos of being “a Light to the Nation” through dedicated service and exemplary conduct.
The ceremony was attended by senior state officials, police leadership, and other stakeholders, highlighting the government’s ongoing efforts to strengthen security infrastructure amid national security challenges.
