In commemoration of the 2025 Drug Abuse Day, the Special Adviser to Governor Hope Uzodinma on Narcotics and Illicit Drug Monitoring, Chief Ezechukwu Obonna, has received the Ambassador of the War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) award.
Obonna was presented with the award by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Imo as part of activities marking the 2025 International Day Against Drug Abuse in Owerri on Thursday.
The NDLEA Commander, Mr Ibrahim Ohida, said the award was in recognition of Obonna’s outstanding contributions and commitment to the fight against drug abuse.
Receiving the award, an elated Obonna thanked the NDLEA for considering him and for acknowledging his efforts in combating drug abuse.
Obonna stated that the recognition would further motivate him to ensure that his mandate, alongside that of the NDLEA, was fully realised in Imo.
He noted that the state government was particularly committed to helping the youth redirect their future away from drug misuse, citing the donation of Hilux vans to the NDLEA in Imo and the renovation of a rehabilitation facility for the agency.
He urged Imo youths to desist from drug abuse and illicit trafficking whether as users, dealers, or accomplices for the sake of their lives and future.
